Depart New York on the overnight flight to London. Day 2 Enroute Arrive in London this morning, where day rooms are available for you to freshen up before continuing this evening on the overnight flight to Lusaka. Heathrow Hilton (Day Room) Day 3 Arrive Lusaka-South Luangwa (D) Arrive in Lusaka early this morning, where you will be met and assisted to a light aircraft flight to Mfuwe in the South Luangwa National Park. Settle into your luxury camp nestled in a grove of mahogony trees and relax before this afternoon’s game activity. Day 4 South Luangwa (BLD) The South Luangwa is considered one of the best game viewing areas in Africa. The camp’s vantage point on the Luangwa River affords excellent game viewing from right inside the camp. Both game walks and game drives are available here, and the choice is yours. You might want to look out for the puku - a member of the antelope family that looks somewhat like an impala, but probably more closely resembles a waterbuck. They are rarely seen outside of Zambia. Day 5 South Luangwa (BLD) Another full day in South Luangwa to enjoy the prolific wildlife. Another species endemic to this region is the Thornicroft’s giraffe. Its subtle color differences (and lack of color below the knees) help you tell it apart from other more common giraffe species. Day 6 South Luangwa (BLD) Your final day in South Luangwa. Be sure to take advantage of a game walk experience, as your perspective on foot is very different from that in a vehicle. Night game drives are fascinating in South Luangwa and you have a pretty good chance of seeing the elusive leopard. Look for the pennant-winged nightjar - a nocturnal insect-eating bird. Breeding males give off a ghost-like appearance at night, as streamers run off their wings. Day 7 South Luangwa-Lower Zambezi (BLD) A light aircraft flight takes you via Lusaka to the Lower Zambezi, where you settle into your tented camp along the Zambezi River. Opened for game-viewing in 1990, the Lower Zambezi offers one of the most intimate settings for game viewing in all of Africa. More than 400 species of birds and 50 mammals have been recorded in the park. Choose from a variety of game-viewing activities this afternoon. Day 8 Lower Zambezi National Park (BLD) Zambia was one of the pioneer countries for “bush walks” and you shouldn’t miss the chance to take at least one bush walk on your safari. Your camp is also ideally suited for a water-safari. Pontoon boats with canopies to protect from the sun give you a great vantage point to view game and also get up close to river life. Day 9 Lower Zambezi-North Kafue (BLD) A light aircraft flight takes you into North Kafue. Kafue National Park is over 8,600 square miles and one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. Your camp for the next four nights is located in the extreme north of the park on the Busanga Plains. After you have settled in, enjoy a game-viewing activity of your choice this afternoon. Day 10 Kafue National Park (BLD) The Busanga Plains is one of Zambia’s most significant wetland. It covers more than 289 square miles and is virtually untouched by human activity. The park boasts 55 mammal species and over 400 bird species, including the endemic Chaplin’s Barbet. Choose from a game walk or a game drive for your game activities today. Day 11 Kafue National Park (BLD) The Busanga area is home to thousands of red lechwe, puku, and sable as well as huge herds of hartebeest, zebra and buffalo. As you might expect, this “buffet” of plains game attracts the predators like cheetah, leopard and African wildcat. Busanga is actually one of the best places in Zambia for spotting cheetah - so keep your eyes peeled. Day 12 Kafue National Park (BLD) On your last day in Kafue you might want to be a bit adventurous and try a full day of water game-viewing in a banana boat. Bird lovers may like to take a game walk and enjoy the wide variety of species - like six bee-eaters, nine kingfishers and fourteen egrets and herons. Special birds like Rosy-throated Longclaws and Lanner Falcons can also be spotted here. Day 13 Kafue-Livingstone (BLD) A light aircraft flight takes you back to Lusaka, where you continue by light aircraft to Livingstone. You will travel by both road and boat to your luxury lodge along the Zambezi River. Settle into the lodge and enjoy the stunning views from your private verandah. Day 14 Victoria Falls (BLD) A highlight today will be a visit to Victoria Falls - the smoke that thunders. Be sure to take a rain slicker, as the spray from the falls can soak you pretty quickly. Later this afternoon, you might want to visit a local village or perhaps enjoy a relaxing sundowner boat cruise along the Zambezi. Activities are tailored to what you want to do. Day 15 Victoria Falls-Depart (B) Bid farewell to this amazing country as you transfer to the airport for the flight to Johannesburg where you continue on the overnight flight to London. Day 16 Arrive USA Arrive in London early this morning where you connect to your USA-bound flight, arriving later today.
