Depart the USA on the overnight flight to London. Day 2 Enroute Arrive in London early this morning where the day is at leisure until you leave London on the overnight flight to Cape Town. Day 3 Arrive Cape Town-Franschoek Touchdown in Cape Town this morning where you will be met and transferred to Cape Town's winelands and the magnificent Franschhoek Valley. Welcome to South Africa's wine country, where the vistas open onto rolling vineyards covering the mountain slopes. The area of Franschhoek was originally settled by a group of almost 300 Huguenots, who fled France in 1685 after Protestantism was outlawed. The Dutch government game them land in what was then called Oliphantshoek (Elephant Corner). Today, it is known as Franschhoek (French Corner). The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 4 & 5 Franschhoek (B) You have two full days to enjoy the area of Franschhoek. Your hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the area or to take advantage of the many activities at the hotel (like hiking, golf, biking, or indulging in a spa treatment.) Of course, you'll want to visit one of the nearby wine estates and taste some of South Africa's excellent wines. We include a tour to the Cape of Good Hope, which takes you along Cape Town's scenic coast out to the furthest tip of the continent to see where the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean meet. If you'd like more structure to your visit, we can help with ideas of fun things to do.Day 6 Franschhoek-Kruger National Park (Private Game Reserve) (BLD) This morning, you'll be transferred to the Cape Town International Airport for a scheduled flight to Mpumalanga, gateway to the private reserves in and around Kruger National Park. It is one of the largest national parks in the world - with an area of more than 7,700 square miles. Day 7 & 8 Kruger National Park (Private Game Reserve) (BLD) Activities today are up to you. You'll surely want to go out on at least one game drive in search of the Big Five. (The Big Five -- Lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino -- phrase comes from the days of big-game hunters. The animals were not grouped together because of size, but rather because of the difficulty in hunting them.) Bird life is also spectacular here and you might want to spend some time bird watching with one of the experienced rangers.Day 9 Kruger National Park-Depart Time in the bush ends much too quickly as you fly to Johannesburg today where you connect to the overnight flight to London. Day 10 Arrive USA Touch down in London early this morning and continue to the USA on your homeward-bound flight, arriving later today.
