Day 3  Cairo (B)
Today's full day tour begins at the Egyptian Museum. The Museum was built in 1902 and contains one of the most impressive and comprehensive collections of artifacts in the world. Of the more than 120,000 objects, at least 44,000 are on display at any one time. It could take months to see each exhibit on display in the museum -- we'll spend a few hours visiting some of the most well known. We continue to Giza with to visit the Great Pyramid of Cheop, one of the seven wonders of the world. This is the oldest and largest of the pyramids found in Giza.

Day 4  Cairo-Luxor (B)
This morning, fly south to Luxor where we cross the Nile to explore the New Kingdom city of "Thebes". We begin at the Valley of the Kings. So far, 62 tombs have been discovered in the Valley of the Kings - most famous perhaps being that of King Tutankhamun. On to the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahri. Later this afternoon our exploration takes us to the Temple of Luxor, built under Amenophis III and Ramses II, primarily to celebrate the Festival of Opet. Then on to the massive temples of Karnak, built over a period of 1300 years.
Winter Pavillon

Day 5  Luxor-Abu Simbel-Cairo (B)
This morning, travel to Aswan where you board the short flight to Abu Simbel to marvel at the temples and colassal statues of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. Judging from the position of the temples, the imposing colossi of Ramses II would have greeted travelers as they tried to enter Egypt and sent a message of Egypt's strength. Ramses II chief queen, Nefertari is celebrated in the Temple of Hathor, which Ramses II dedicated to "Nefertari for whose sake the very sun does shine." Return to Cairo this evening, where the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 6  Cairo-In Flight (B)
The day is at leisure to explore on your own or just relax at the hotel. Late this evening you'll transfer to the airport for the overnight flight to Nairobi.

Day 7  Arrive Nairobi (D)
Jambo and welcome to Kenya! A very early morning touchdown in Nairobi may give you an opportunity to see the sun rise in Kenya's capital city. A bit of leisure time gives you a chance for a quick nap and shower before we travel to the suburb of Karen this afternoon. Visit the former home of writer Karen von Blixen (Out of Africa) where you can walk through the original house and stroll the grounds set at the foot of the Ngong Hills. Then, a fun experience awaits at the Giraffe Center where you have an opportunity to feed the Rothschild giraffes. Return to your hotel late this afternoon for an evening at leisure.
Day 8  Nairobi-Masai Mara (BLD)
A light aircraft flight takes you to the Masai Mara, arriving in time for lunch. Then, it's time for your first game drive. Thanks to the variety of habitats (from rich riverine forests to expansive plains), the Masai Mara is host to a wide array of herbivores, carnivores and birdlife. At last count, there were over 95 species of mammals, reptiles and amphibians along with more than 485 aerial species found in the Masai Mara. Look for the majestic topi as he stands on top of anthills to survey the territory. Black-maned lions find refuge from the hot sun under the shade of baobab trees which dot the horizons. There is no better place for game-viewing.
Day 9  Masai Mara (BLD)
Morning and afternoon game drives are always exciting in the Masai Mara, as you never know what you will see! Topi, gazelle and elephant are frequently seen, as are silverbacked jackals, hippo and crocodiles.
Day 10  Masai Mara-Nairobi (B)
After breakfast, fly back to Nairobi where the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 11  Nairobi-Cape Town
An early flight takes you to Johannesburg from where you continue on to South Africa's beautiful harbor city of Cape Town. After settling into your hotel, you might like to stroll around the Waterfront's shops and choose a restaurant for dinner this evening.
Protea Victoria Junction

Day 12  Cape Town (B)
Choose from three excursions today: Spend the full day traveling past Camps Bay and on to Cape Point or spend the full day touring the picturesque winelands around Cape Town. Or, you might wish to spend the day on a cultural tour, learning a bit about Cape Town’s history and the effects of apartheid. The choice is yours.
Protea Victoria Junction
