Welcome to Costa Rica. Upon arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 2 San Jose-Monteverde (B) Your adventure begins with a drive to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Later this afternoon, switch gears and learn about coffee growing on a visit to the Don Juan Coffee Farm. Coffee growing began in Costa Rica in 1820 and today many consider the coffee produced here among the finest in the world. Day 3 Monteverde (B) Monteverde is called a cloud forest rather than a rain forest because of its altitude. At 4,660 feet, Monteverde has over 400 species of birds, 2,500 species of plants (420 of which are orchids) and more than 100 species of mammals. This morning, enjoy a guided walk in the Cloud Forest. The afternoon is at leisure to explore on your own or perhaps take an optional Suspension Bridges tour. Day 4 Monteverde-Manuel Antonio (B) A shuttle transfer to Manuel Antonio takes about 5 hours. The National Park is 1,600 acres and teeming with wildlife. There are more than 100 species of animals and 184 bird species. The area is also well known for suba diving and snorkeling and from the coastline you might see dolphins frolicking in the sea. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 5 Manuel Antonio (BD) This morning, enjoy a half day tour of Manuel Antonio National Park. Keep your eyes open as you might spot a sloth or one of the adorable squirrel monkeys in the trees. Later, a covered boat tour takes you through the beautiful estuary system of Damas Island. Day 6 Manuel Antonio-South Pacific (BLD) This morning, a light aircraft flight takes you to Palmar Sur from where you will drive to the dock and finish your journey by boat. Known as the “wild south” or “last frontier”, the South Pacific region is home to Corcovado and the largest stretch of pacific coastal rainforests in Central America. A stay here brings you close to nature with opportunities to see some of Costa Rica’s most exotic flora and fauna. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 7 South Pacific (Corcovado Area) (BLD) Start the day with a tour of Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula. Look for the beautiful Scarlet Macaw as well as the Resplendent Quetzal, the Red-Eyed Tree Frog and the Tapir, the largest terrestrial mammal in Central and South America. There are more than 13 major ecosystems in the park, including mangrove swamps, montane forests, lagoons, and primary lowland rainforests. Day 8 South Pacific (Corcovado Area) (BLD) A treat awaits today as you visit the Isla del Cano Biological Reserve, a marine biological reserve about 20km offshore from the Osa Peninsula. The area was once used as a pre-Columbian cemetary. The island was believed to be formed more than 50 million years ago as a result of a shift of the earth’s tectonic plates. The main attraction lies underwater, where you will discover gorgeous coral reefs and some of the world’s most stunning marine flora and fauna. At least 15 species of stony coral have been identified. Day 9 South Pacific-San Jose (B) After breakfast, a boat and ground transfer takes you back to the Palmar Sur airstrip from where you depart on a light aircraft flight to San Jose. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 10 San Jose-Depart (B) Your adventure comes to an end as you fly home today.
