The wildlife and bird viewing in the Okavango Delta and surrounding areas is so abundant, you could easily spend more than 6 nights. We've combined two outstanding areas -- the Delta and the adjacent Moremi Reserve. Depending on your camp location, you can spend time viewing by water, land or foot. With three nights in each camp, you'll also have an opportunity to savor the camp's amenities and soak in every moment on safari. Depart New York on the overnight flight to London. Day 2 Enroute Arrive in London early this morning where the day is at leisure until you continue on the overnight flight to Johannesburg. Day 3 Arrive Johannesburg-Linyanti Reserve (D) Touch down in Johannesburg early this morning, where you connect to the flight bound for Maun, Botswana. Continue by light aircraft to your choice of camp nestled deep within the Linyanti concession area. Day 4 & 5 Linyanti (BLD) Activities during your stay are your choice. The Linyanti is one of the least visited areas of the Okavango Delta, bordered by the Linyanti River to the north and Chobe National Park to the east. During the dry season, the Linyanti River draws wildlife like a magnet. The diverse habitat is comprised of open grasslands as well as large mopane woodland and leadwood forests. (Mopane trees are the most common species of trees occurring in the Okavango Delta and are distinguished by their butterfly-shaped leaves.) Game viewing will reveal a wide variety of wildlife. You'll find large concentrations of plains game like buffalo and members of the antelope family like the Red Lechwe and kudu. If you are lucky, you may spot some of the more elusive of the antelope family, like the Roan antelope. Giraffes love the acacia trees and cheetahs are frequently spotted on the open plains running down their prey. Linyanti is also well known for the lion and hyena.Day 6 Okavango Delta (BLD) Today, a change of pace. A light aircraft transfer takes you to your second camp, in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Settle into your camp where the choice of activity each day is yours. Day 7 & 8 Okavango Delta Each year, life returns to the Okavango Delta thanks to an amazing journey of floodwaters that begins in the central African highlands more than a thousand kilometers away. Marshes and waterways fill in creating a stunning water wonderland. The water attracts a host of wildlife, both big and small. Bird life is prolific, with more than 580 species recorded. More than 80 fish species have been identified in the Okavango. In addition to wildlife, you'll also learn about the unique job of plants in the Delta. Unlike most rivers, where you find a high level of mud, the Okavango is mostly clean water with little mud and almost all sand. The plants capture the sand, acting as a "glue" (as mud would) helping create more islands, where more plants can take root.Day 9 Okavango Delta-Depart (B) Sadly, your incredible adventure comes to an end today when a light aircraft takes you back to Maun where you connect to the scheduled flight to Johannesburg. Here, connect to the overnight flight to London. Day 10 Arrive USA After an early morning arrival in London, continue on your scheduled flight to the USA, arriving later today. Welcome Home.
