Day 4  Cairo-Abu Simbel-Aswan (Embark) (BLD)
Fly to Abu Simbel this morning to visit the magnificent Temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari. An engineering marvel, the great temple was moved up the hillside to save it from flooding when Aswan's High Dam was built. Then fly back to Aswan where you embark on your Nile Cruise. After lunch we sail around Elephantine Island.

Day 5  Aswan-Kom Ombo-Edfu (BLD)
This morning, visit Aswan's High Dam, the ancient Granite Quarries, and the Temple of Philae. Later, we sail to Kom Ombo to visit the Graeco-Roman style Temple of Sobek, the Crocodile God. Standing serenely on a hilltop, the site offers an incredible view over the Nile. Continue sailing to Edfu.

Day 6  Edfu-Esna-Luxor (BLD)
Today an exhilarating carriage ride takes you through town to the Temple of Horus, the Falcon God. Second largest of Egypt's temples (after Karnak), the Temple was built on the site of the massive struggle between Horus, son of Isis and Seth, brother of Osiris. Return to your ship and sail to Luxor via the Esna Lock.

Day 7  Luxor (Disembark)-Cairo (B)
This morning you cross the Nile to Luxor's West Bank, where you'll explore the astonishing and extensive New Kingdom city of “Thebes”. Sightseeing includes the Valley of the Kings and Queens where some 64 of Egypt's Pharaohs have their palatial resting places hewn into the sheer rock; the Colossi of Memnon, two huge seated statues of Amenhotep III. Afternoon visit of Luxor and Karnak Temples, a holy city of pylons, hypostyle halls, colossal statues and obelisks built over many centuries and dedicated to the God Amon-Ra, his consort Mut, and their son Khonsu. Later, take the short flight to Cairo where you overnight.

Day 9  Cairo-Nairobi (BD)
Touch down in Nairobi very early this morning and transfer to your hotel. After time to freshen up, drive to the suburb of Karen to visit the Karen Blixen Museum. As you wonder the grounds, the words of Blixen's most famous novel, Out of Africa, come to life. Later, a fun visit to the Giraffe Center caps the day's activities.
Day 10  Nairobi-Masai Mara (BLD)
Begin your safari in Kenya’s most famous park, as your drive takes you to the Masai Mara today. Arrive in time for lunch and then enjoy an afternoon game drive. Have your game-viewing checklist handy, as the Masai Mara has one of the richest varieties of birdlife and wildlife in the world. Buffalo and wildebeest herds are huge in the Mara - and predators like lion and hyena are equally abundant.
Day 11  Masai Mara (BLD)
You might want to start the day with an optional balloon safari, floating over the Mara as the animals begin to stir. Morning and afternoon game drives are always exciting in the Masai Mara, as you never know what you will see! Topi, gazelle and elephant are frequently seen, as are silverbacked jackals, hippo and crocodiles.
Day 12  Masai Mara-Great Rift Valley (BLD)
Your journey takes you into the Rift Valley and ecologically diverse Lake Nakuru National Park. Enjoy an afternoon game drive which might reveal rhino, Rothschild giraffe, waterbuck and impala. Watch the treetops for the playful black and white Colobus monkeys. Then, continue to Lake Nakuru or Lake Naivasha for the night.
Day 13  Great Rift Valley-Amboseli (BLD)
Leave early this morning and drive towards Nairobi and then turn south towards stunning Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Cynthia Moss focused much of her research on elephants in Amboseli National Park as herds of these gentle giants dot the plains.

Day 14  Amboseli (BLD)
Rise early this morning to catch the first views of Mt. Kilimanjaro as its snow-capped summit peaks out from under the clouds. Amboseli boasts five different wildlife habitats and the wide open flat plains make spotting wildlife a little easier. Look for the amusing warthog along with jackal, baboons, lions and cheetahs.

Day 15  Amboseli-Depart (BD)
An early departure from Amboseli sees us back in Nairobi early this afternoon. The day is at leisure to relax or catch up on postcards. Enjoy dinner before you transfer to the airport for the flight to London.
