Depart the USA on your overnight flight to London. Day 2 Enroute Arrive in London early this morning where day rooms are available for you to use to freshen up. Later this evening, depart on the overnight flight to Lusaka. Heathrow Hilton (Day Room) Day 3 Arrive Lusaka-South Luangwa (D) Welcome to Zambia! After you have cleared customs and immigration, you’ll be met and transferred for the short light aircraft flight to Mfuwe International Airport. Your guide awaits at the airport for a scenic drive to your camp overlooking the Luangwa River. You’ll have time to settle in and enjoy lunch or afternoon tea (depending on what time you arrive). Later this evening, enjoy a night game drive. Day 4 South Luangwa (BLD) Enjoy a hot bowl of porridge around the campfire at dawn before setting out on your morning game drive or walk. South Luangwa National Park is the largest of four parks in the Luangwa Valley. The valley is a rift valley similar to that in East Africa, although it is believed to be older. Thanks to it’s rich volcanic soil, the valley has a rich, diversified vegetation - which in turn supports a large number of herbivores and you might spot some of the animals that are unique to this area, like puku, which is one of the smaller types of antelopes. Return to the camp around mid-day for lunch and perhaps a siesta before a night game drive to take a peek into the nocturnal animal world. Day 5 South Luangwa (BLD) Choose your activity for today. You might want to take a picnic lunch and explore further afield in the park. Another “special” animal to watch for is the Thornicroft’s giraffe. These giraffe differ from the Maasai or Rothschild’s giraffe - their legs below their knees are almost white and their faces are quite light or white. The main part of their body is covered in dark patches, while their neck is covered in lighter patches. Day 6 South Luangwa (BLD) Thanks to a plentiful supply of food, predators like lion, leopard, spotted hyena and wild dog are also plentiful in South Luangwa. And bird lovers will delight in the more than 400 species that have been recorded here. Why not take a game walk this morning and test your birding skills. Day 7 South Luangwa-Lower Zambezi (BLD) After breakfast you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Royal Airstrip in Lower Zambezi National Park. Your camp looks onto the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers. After lunch, you’ll have a choice between a game drive or game viewing on the waters of the Zambezi River. Bird-lovers will appreciate time by the water, as many of the more than 350 species of birds have been recorded along the river. Look for kingfishers, darters and fish eagles. Day 8 Lower Zambezi (BLD) The Zambezi is home to one of the world’s premiere game fish, the tiger. The variety in the Zambezi, “Hydrocynus vittatus”, can grow up to 10 -12 Kg and is a superb fighter. Why not try your hand at catching one today - but pictures only, as it is strictly catch and release for these fish. Or, you might opt for a morning or afternoon canoe trip - one of the best ways to observe big game. And you will certainly find it, as buffalo and elephant can often be found grazing on the islands in the middle of the river. Day 9 Lower Zambezi (BLD) One last day to enjoy game viewing. It’s your choice again and you might like to split the day with a walk in the morning and a game drive this afternoon. What about a sundowner boat trip to end your perfect stay in the Lower Zambezi? Day 10 Lower Zambezi-Livingstone (BLD) After breakfast you will be transferred to Royal Airstrip for your flight to Lusaka and onwards to Livingstone where a lodge representative will meet and accompany you on the 45 minute transfer to your lodge. Your chalet has a private balcony with spectacular views over the Zambezi River. Day 11 Livingstone (BLD) You can choose to relax and enjoy the surroundings today or partake in a bird walk. If you enjoyed fishing for the Zambezi Tiger, you might want to try your hand at it again. Or, you could opt for a tour to nearby Chobe National Park in neighboring Botswana. The choice is yours (some activities are optional and at an additional fee.) Day 12 Livingstone (BLD) It’s your last day on safari. You might want to just relax and soak in the views or take one last bird walk. Day 13 Livingstone-Depart (B) Bid farwell to this paradise and transfer to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg, where you connect to the overnight flight to London. Day 14 Arrive USA Arrive in London early this morning where you connect to the USA bound flight, arriving later today. Welcome Home!
