Depart the USA on your overnight flight to London. (Note: Due to flight connections, passengers flying from the West Coast may have to depart one day earlier.) Day 2 Arrive Nairobi Arrive in London this morning where you connect to the Nairobi-bound flight, arriving late this evening. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Day 3 Nairobi-Lake Manyara (BLD) An early departure takes you south across the border into Arusha for lunch before continuing to Lake Manyara. As you approach Lake Manyara, you are sure to be struck by the dramatic views. The lake lies in a depressed valley with the brown and red cliffs of the escarpment rising strikingly on one side. Enjoy game viewing this afternoon in the nearby park. Day 4 Lake Manyara-Serengeti (BLD) Your first stop this morning is at Olduvai Gorge. Resembling a long, dry trench, the Gorge is a veritable archaeological treasure-trove. Louis and Mary Leakey spent more than 28 years sifting through hundreds of fossils before uncovering the “homo habilis” (Handy Man), dating back more than 1.6 million years. Continue to the Serengeti arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive in search of big game. Day 5 Serengeti (BLD) The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word “siringet”, which means endless plains. Game-viewing is exciting year-round, as the Serengeti supports large prides of lions as well as a healthy amount of leopards. A full day in the Serengeti allows time for both morning and afternoon game drives. Day 6 Serengeti-Ngorongoro (BLD) After breakfast, your drive takes you into the Ngorongoro Conservation area where the remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 7 Ngorongoro (BLD) A full day of game viewing in the Crater is a highlight. Supporting more than 25,000 mammals, the crater is home to a wide variety of both herbivores and carnivores. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and eland are abundant. With such a rich food supply, carnivores like lion, hyenas and leopard are also at home in the crater. Watch for the kori bustard (the world’s largest flying bird) to see if you can spot its elaborate territorial display during breeding season. Day 8 Ngorongoro-Nairobi (BLD) Return to Arusha for lunch and then continue back to Nairobi. The remainder of the evening is at leisure. Enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening. Day 9 Nairobi-Masai Mara (BLD) A light aircraft flight takes you to Kenya’s most famous reserve, arriving in time for lunch. Birdwatchers will delight in the Masai Mara, as more than 500 species of birds have been recorded. There are over 16 species of eagles and 9 species of sunbird. Day 10 Masai Mara (BLD) Morning and afternoon game drives in the Mara are exciting. Teeming wildlife includes a variety of plains game such as zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, gazelle, as well as predators such as hyena, jackal, lion, leopard and cheetah. Day 11 Masai Mara-Nairobi (BLD) After breakfast, bid farewell to the Maasai Mara when your light aircraft flight takes you back to Nairobi. Stop at the Carnivore Restaurant for a lunch of barbecued meats, including game like ostrich and impala, before continuing to your hotel for a leisurely afternoon. Day 12 Nairobi-Johannesburg (B) Spend the morning at the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage where you will learn about the special work the center does in saving, raising and then releasing orphaned elephants. With luck, you’ll get to see some of the “babies” running around with their keepers. Then transfer to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg, where a short walk takes you to your hotel for the night. Day 13 Johannesburg-Victoria Falls (BD) Your flight takes you to Livingstone and your boutique safari lodge just 3 kilometers from Victoria Falls, set on a hill bordering the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Each and every cottage is individually designed, with many having an open side design, affording you luxury while you experience the real Africa as Stanley Livingstone might have. Day 14 Victoria Falls (BLD) Your schedule is flexible today. You might like to relax this morning and then later visit stunning Victoria Falls. As you approach the Falls, you will feel the mist rising up as hundreds of thousands of gallons of water cascade into the river below. Rain slickers are a must! Later, you might want to select from a variety of available optional activities - or just relax and enjoy the special atmosphere of your lodge. Day 15 Victoria Falls-Okavango Delta (BLD) A road transfer takes you to Kasane in Botswana from where you board your light aircraft flight transfer into the amazing Okavango Delta. Settle into your intimate safari camp and select from a choice of activities this afternoon. Depending on your lodge, you might want to take a mekoro ride to view wildlife from the water -- or enjoy an amazing game walk with your Ranger. Day 16 Okavango Delta (BLD) Botswana’s magnificent Okavango Delta is a maze of lagoons, lakes and hidden channels covering an area of over 16,000 square km in flood and shrinking to less than 9,000 sq km in the dry season. The camps activities are designed around providing the optimum game viewing experience. Among the most populous of the mammals is the lechwe, a swamp dwelling antelope that you will no-doubt see dashing through the swamps. Day 17 Victoria Falls-Depart (B) Your journey must come to an end! A light aircraft flight takes you to Kasane from where you drive back to Livingstone and travel onward to Johannesburg for your overnight flight to London.
